Eat Me!

It’s been quite busy so far this week and it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. I know, I know..you gotta make time..

Apart from working out, I’ve been quite organised when it comes to food..from juicing my heart out to lunches/dinners I brought to work to healthy desserts. If preparation is the key to success, I’m winning! 😊

Here’s a look at a selection of food and beverages I’ve been eating..

20130327-010553.jpg

It’s safe to say that, when it comes to breakfast, I haven’t been very adventurous lately..just your ordinary amazing porridge with different added extras..always made with unsweetened Almond Breeze and cinnamon, then topped with, mmh, well, let’s see..- banana, chia/sunflower/sesame/pumpkin seeds, PB or AB, but always sprinkled with more cinnamon! πŸ˜‹
On other mornings, or pre-workout, I typically make a green juice. This usually consists of carrots, apples, pears, spinach, kale, ginger and lemon/lime..if I feel like it (or haven’t run out of it) I add beetroot and cucumber. Yummy!
As for tea or coffee- one or the other is always essential.. be it black tea with almond milk, green tea, chai or vanilla roiboos tea, an almond milk latte or a “blended” iced latte (coffee+almond milk+vanilla extract+ice cubes=wizzed together in a blender).

20130327-010611.jpg

Err..speaking of predicable – chicken, chicken and more chicken.. oops! I actually had a vegetarian salad with falafel at work on Sunday, which went undocumented, but I can assure you it looked and tasted delicious.
Aaaanyway, so apart from the chicken, red cabbage and kale has featured quite heavily on the menu these past few days – because both just rock my taste buds! The Boyfriend is quite the fan too..win-win!

20130327-010626.jpg

Mmmhh – desserts! Dried pineapple..can I even count the ways..!?! It’s just so..so..so delicious and nutritious aaaand addictive ..read:dangerous! I kinda feel the need to state that I only eat the unsweetened kind, cos otherwise what’s the point! Plus, I tried the sweetened one only once and didn’t like it.
Then there were a couple of new discoveries .. alcohol-free vanilla extract! Amazeballs! Perfect for adding to yogurt/cottage cheese, coffee..anything that isn’t baked really. Like Greek yogurt..nom! 😊
The second new find -the Green Glow smoothie (desserts), which is based on Tone It Up’s recipe, only I added almond milk instead of coconut water. So, yes- that’s a super delicious dessert that’s good for you. Dreams do come true! Hehee!

And with that, I’m off to dream about the “Green Glow” dessert..gotta buy some avocados tomorrow.. πŸ˜‹

The Little Things

Monday… *groan*… Not over here though! I’d like to say that I’ve been having a happy and quite productive and “random” Monday so far. I’m currently sitting on the sofa, with a happy, purring kitten on my lap, eating my, quite late, lunch.

20130304-164547.jpg

That would be a gluten/wheat/sugar free cheesy bap (from The Quay Co-op Bakery in Cork) topped with a Edamame dip (from Tesco πŸ˜„ hehee), as well a hot cup of Vanilla Drink Me Chai. Holy yum!

Let’s start from the beginning though. Given the fact that I’m off today and we’re nearly out of dry cat food -exciting stuff, I know! πŸ˜‰ – I was planning on taking a trip to the pet shop today (because there’s only 2 shops anywhere near us that stock Mowgli’s Royal Canin food).
Anyway, the Boyfriend had to work a bit later today, so I thought I’d join him on his journey to work and kill two birds with one stone – spend a little bit more time with my Love and get cat food at the same time, as one of the pet shops is in the same town in where he works. Yay! πŸ˜€It’s the little things that make a difference and can brighten your day.
Another example- a walk on a cold, breezy day. Two and a half miles to be precise.. just wonderful!
It made me feel refreshed, relaxed and invigorated.

Next on the agenda: shopping..
So, naturally, I couldn’t just walk in and out of the shop with just the food, but also picked up a couple of new toys for our little bundle of energy.

20130304-170653.jpg

Needless to say, Mowgli loves his new “buddies” already.

On my way back through the city, knowing that I needed to pick up another few items, I popped into a health food store, the Quay Co-Op, really just to buy some cinnamon..πŸ˜‹ One essential ingredient that I usually always have in my kitchen, but ran out of it a few days ago! Shock! Horror!
Now, all is good again

20130304-173312.jpg

All of this might just be run of the mill, nothing out of the ordinary, but then I found something worthy of it’s own post (ok, obviously not) ..

20130304-173837.jpg

Yes, I’m talking about Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk! πŸ™€πŸ˜ƒ And to put the cherry on top, they stock not just the “original” aka sweetened kind, but also the unsweetened and chocolate ones! Holy shmoly! Oh-ehm-geee! I actually wanted to hug one of the ladies in the store and couldn’t help but comment on the fact they are now stocking it! As far as I know the Quay Co-Op is the only stockist of Almond Breeze in Cork! To say I’m delighted might even be an understatement. *happy dance*

Other things I picked up:

20130304-174818.jpg

Yummy Chocolate Chai Tea and a Vanilla Chai drink ( which is powdered and more of a treat rather than a drink to have on a regular basis).

20130304-175236.jpg

Apple Cider Vinegar, another essential ingredient!

20130304-175436.jpg

Ginger and irish-grown baby beets! How cute are they!? I only bought a few, because I’m still not into beetroot as much as I’d liked to be. So here goes another attempt trying to make myself love them, as listing all of the beets’ health benefits hasn’t worked.😜

Well, that’s all for now, I’m off to run a couple more errands and then I have a date with my Spring Fling ..with the lovely ladies from Tone It Up.

Although I don’t live in SoCal, today it’s time for me to HIIT the Beach along with some Cowabunga. πŸŒŠπŸ‘£β˜€πŸ’ͺ😊

My first “What I Ate Wednesday”

Happy Humpsday! πŸ™‚
We’re halfway through the week..it’s Wednesday and what better chance to share my first WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday) post.

Although my day was a bit chaotic and I’ve been rushing since I got up this morning, I did manage to snap a few pictures of my eats today! Hooray πŸ˜‰
So, here we go..

20130220-220834.jpg

(Source)
A large iced latte, no sugar/sweetener, which I failed to take a photo of, so this will have to do..sorry :/

This latte was later joined by a small to medium cappuccino (same story – no sugar/sweetener, I’m sweet enough, thanks heheee), also undocumented ! Uh-oh, didn’t I say I managed to photograph what I ate today?! Major fail!

Up next-

20130220-221422.jpg

M&S’ Feta Cheese & Slow Roasted Tomato Pasta Salad, which was accompanied by this

20130220-221823.jpg

Mediterranean vegetable focaccia, with

20130220-223527.jpg

M&S’ Caramelised Onion Hummus.
All of this was shared with The Boyfriend, which makes any meal better ❀ πŸ™‚

After our “main course” we each ate one of these yummy M&S Lemon Mousses (<- is that how you say it, sounds weird, but right, haha)

20130220-223853.jpg

Later, I tried this delicious new(-to-me) tea/juice blend (also from Marks and Spencer! You’d be forgiven to think this post was sponsored by them, which it’s definitely not), Peach, Camomile and Green Tea blend

20130220-224634.jpg

It doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners or “added” sugar, which I was delighted about, although I’m not sure about the fruit “extracts” and “concentrates”. Hell, it was a treat anyway, and today certainly wasn’t a good example of what I usually eat, it’s most definitely a start, should I continue with WIAW posts. πŸ™‚

Before I forget, there was one more item that I most definitely consume on a regular basis..

20130220-225223.jpg

Rooibos and Vanilla tea! OMG! Like amazeballs! This tea must have sent from the Tea gods, because it’s not only refreshing, delicious and naturally sweet, but also caffeine free! Hooray!

Well, I’m off to make another pot of the good stuff, i.e. rooibos vanilla tea,

Hallelujah! – It’s Sunday! Two days to Christmas, which means two days of work thenΒ  three glorious days off.. to say I’m delirious with Christmas spiritΒ  tiredness is an understatement, but it’s all good, cos soon people will return to being their normal selves, i.e. not having a nervous breakdown because the Brussels sprouts are sold out at 4am. Sounds good to me!

It’s been over a week since my last post.. errm.. – oops! And to be honest I don’t know if this week will be much more productive, we’ll see.. it’s Christmas, I’m not gonna put myself under any more pressure than necessary – I’ll try though.

Yes- there’s chips/fries in there..I had a few, and crisps..I didn’t eat any. It’s definitely not clean, lean or green..except for the first dinner..cooked by yours truly- chicken, quinoa and with roasted peppers and mushrooms with a sprinkling of spring onion. Yum!

With that, I’m signing off..to dive head first into the crowds for a final, healthier Christmas lunch with my Beloved, bestie and her little boy.

Happy Christmas!!!! β™₯

Sweat:On!

Good Morning!

The weekend over here was off to a good start, with a Tone It Up Booty Call which consisted of a 5 minute run to warm up, followed by Karena & Katrina’s Fine Toning Arm Routine.

(source)

Instead of doing the 3 rounds back to back though, I added a 5 minute run after each circuit and cooled down with a 10 minute walk. My cooldown would usually only last five minutes, well – depending on how intense the workout was, but today I felt the need to stretch my legs out a bit more. The final touch was a proper stretch of all muscle groups πŸ™‚ happy days!

After sweating it out, I was sooo ready for breakfast..

IMG_20121208_134356

Mmmmhh, porridge made with skimmed milk and cinnamon, topped with ground flax and banana plus more cinnamon! I could eat this every day, and I’m not ashamed to say that I often do. Although, Peanut Butter is sometimes added to the bowl of deliciousness, which makes this even more amazing. β™₯ I hope I’m not the only one that gets this excited about oatmeal.. πŸ™‚

In other news, as planned my honey and I went Christmas shopping yesterday and I’m happy to report we didn’t just purchase 60% of all the presents needed, they are now also wrapped already! Whooohooo!

Photo0546

There’s just something about wrapping presents that makes me feel all christmassy inside, that and an open fire, hot cocoa, mulled wine, baking…Β  Unfortunately, we don’t have a fireplace in our apartment and I have yet to have mulled wine this year, maybe tomorrow though as I’m off work and there’s a small Christmas market with stalls selling all sorts of goodies, well worth a visit I reckon. Next Tuesday will be my last chance to bake some cookies before the big day as I’ll be working straight through until late on Christmas eve. Something or rather someone else making me feel festive is Mowgli.

I couldn’t resist the other day when I saw a Santa collar, it was cheap and even if he couldn’t stand it all, I wouldn’t have wasted more than a couple of €’s. Well, he loves it! Mowgli’s never liked any other collar, so he might be running around as Santa Paws all year. πŸ˜‰ Now the little munchkin wasn’t in the mood for photographs this morning, so you’re just gonna have to take my word for it, until I can provide you with the goods.

For now, it’s time to get ready for the madness at work, β™₯

This or That?

Well, how about another day that didn’t go as planned – Wednesday, I’m looking at you! As I was a bit all over the place yesterday and had planned, and failed, to take pics of all my eats for my first WIAW – What I Ate Wednesday – post, I thought I’d take a detour and do a little This or That? – survey instead, but health and fitness style! πŸ™‚ So, how about it…to the questions, which have been floating around the blog world for a while.

    • Run/workout in the heat and humidity or snow and freezing temps?

As much as I’d like to say heat/humidity and therefore, usually, running during the summer, this is Ireland and we only really have two seasons – winter and something else, with some humidity thrown in. So, should I run outdoors, I’d prefer the cold!

    • Have washboard abs or flat abs?

I’ll take a bit of both πŸ˜€ please! Start with flat abs and work up to a ‘something’-pack.

    • Dr Oz or The Doctors?

Dr Oz! There’s just something about him, he makes a lot of sense.

    • Cardio or Strength?

Cardio is my energizer, though I love strength, especially coupled with cardio in a circuit.

cardio1

(source)

    • Cravings: Protein or Carbs?

Ooohh, protein wins every time.

    • Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper?

This is a difficult one, I like them both.. ok, Jillian cos I find her more intimidating. πŸ™‚

    • Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream?

FroYo! Which for some strange reason isn’t that popular here yet. I love some natural frozen yogurt with fresh raspberries and slivers of almonds or nut butter. πŸ˜›

froyo

(source)

    • To train: Upper body or Lower body?

Both, I love weights for the upper body and bodyweight exercises for the lower half.

    • Protein powder or foods with protein?

For the sake of trying to eat unprocessed foods, it’s gotta be the latter. I do like to bake and cook with protein powder though!

    • Lunges or squats?

How about a side lunge with squat and side leg lift, on of my favs!

    • Sweet or salty?

Sweet and salty together, yummy! Sandwich the two slices below together and it’s perfect πŸ™‚

(source)

    • Workout attire: cute or comfy?

It’s gotta be a combination of both, cos I can’t choose, heheee.

    • Body Pump or Heavy lifting?

I’ve never attended a Body Pump class, heard lots about it and would love to try it.

    • Yoga or Pilates?

Pilates, I’d love to get into yoga too.

    • Nike or Adidas?

Errrhm, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Lululemon, UnderArmour, and whatever fits, looks and feels great.

    • Running on the treadmill or outdoors?

Our treadmill lives in the spare room and is one of the best investments ever! The pavement is fine, if you live somewhere with good roads/streets and neighbourhoods in general.

    • Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s?

The day either store comes to Ireland will be amazing, it’s probably never gonna happen, but a girl can dream. If I lived in the US, the novelty factor alone of being able to shop in either, I wouldn’t care if it was Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.

    • Summer or Winter Olympics?

London 2012 was amazeballs, but I also have fond memories of watching figure skating, hot cup of cocoa in hand, cuddled up to my mum on the sofa.

    • Exercise classes or exercise videos?

Exercise Videos and DVDs, from these ladies in particular

beachbabe

    • Steamed veggies or roasted veggies?

Roasted veggies are my love, the flavours are amazing!

Until soon, β™₯
